Healthy Thoughts On A Healthy New Year

By George Napoli

At the end of every December, as the clock approaches midnight and people count backward as one year comes to an end, a huge number of people are deciding to have a healthy new year. This makes sense because January represents a clean slate. It is a chance for people to try again at all the things you had hoped to achieve during the past 365 days but never did. Here are some tips for helping you keep that resolution of a healthier year ahead.

Perhaps the healthiest thing you can do for yourself is to stop smoking. It is detrimental to your good health on all sorts of levels. It can be off putting to others. It is expensive. So quitting is probably a really good idea.

One thing on seemingly everyone's list is to drop a few pounds. This is not a bad resolution to make. Obesity has been shown to cause a number of health problems. Just be sure that the goals you set for yourself are reasonable. You are more likely to see success and stick with the program.

Some folks vow to reduce their alcohol intake. Doing this may actually help with the weight loss goal. Alcohol has no nutritional value and thus supplies nothing but empty calories. And they add up quickly. As with cigarettes, alcohol can become expensive. Cutting make can save you money as well as help your health.

Boosting mood is a good way to feel better overall. Deciding to open up and make new friends could have as good effect on health as any medicine. Friends are wonderful support in reaching all your other goals.

The new calendar gives everybody a chance to forget the disappointments of the year just past. It offers a great opportunity to hit the reset button. And do not become too discouraged if you don't reach all of your goals. You only have but a short time to do it all over again.
